ASSISTANT COACH KELLY MATHIS

Georgia State women’s basketball has added Kelly Mathis from Georgia to its coaching staff, head coach Sharon Baldwin has announced.

“Kelly is a bright and energetic coach with a solid work ethic, along with a positive and determined attitude,” Baldwin said. “She will be an immediate asset to our program with her knowledge of basketball, recruiting, player development and game video breakdown. Kelly will be a great role model for our student-athletes and will fit it well with our Panther family.”

Mathis has worked on staffs at Georgia, Florida State and Washington and Lee. She began at Georgia four years ago in 2012 under Andy Landers and was promoted to director of recruiting operations and player development in 2015 under Coach Joni Taylor. She spent 2011-12 at Florida State as the recruiting coordinator with Coach Sue Semrau’s staff. Mathis began her coaching career in 2010-11 with Coach Mandy King at Washington and Lee, working with the post players and defensive fundamentals, player development, scouting reports and film breakdown.

She earned her bachelor’s degree in sports management in 2009 from Pfeiffer (N.C.) and played for the Lady Falcons of Coach Heather Macy. Mathis was part of the 26-5 conference champion team as a sophomore and set a school record with a 90-percent field goal game (9-of-10).

A Maryville, Tenn. native, Mathis played her prep basketball, graduating with the Class of 2005, with the Rebels of Maryville High School in the metro Knoxville area.

Baldwin is in her seventh season at Georgia State in the Sun Belt Conference and will begin her 18th season as a head college coach with 263 career wins. Mathis joins the GSU staff of veteran coaches Erin Batth and Latricia Trammell.
